Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with an arson attack on a synagogue in Harrow, north‑west London, police have said.
A 17‑year‑old boy and a 19‑year‑old man are being held by the Metropolitan Police over the incident at the Kenton United Synagogue on Shaftesbury Avenue, where a bottle containing an accelerant was thrown through a window around midnight on Sunday.
The attack caused minor smoke damage to an internal room but resulted in no injuries or serious structural harm, according to police and the Community Security Trust.
The item landed in the synagogue’s medical room, and local leaders have described the incident as part of a wider pattern of assaults on Jewish‑related premises in the capital.
Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes confirmed the two arrests during a broadcast interview and said officers have now made 15 arrests relating to six separate incidents targeting Jewish sites, including a Jewish‑led ambulance service and a Persian‑language media outlet.
He added that counter‑terror investigators are exploring whether some of the recent arson attacks have been carried out by Iranian‑backed proxies, calling it a serious line of inquiry.
